The new edition of the Bicycle Ecosystem depicts the status quo of the bicycle manufacturing industry, synonymous with excellence and a strategic sector not only for the national economy but also for the ecological transition
The Bicycle Ecosystem Observatory returns to tell the story of Italy’s resilient and innovation-prone two-wheel manufacturing industry. The ‘physiological’ drop in revenues recorded in 2023 after three years of uninterrupted growth has not affected the financial and equity solidity of companies in the sector, which thus continue to invest, laying the foundations for greater competitiveness in the recovery phase
The Italian bike industry, meanwhile, continues to set the standard in the world. The top of the range designed for racing rewards Italian excellence: evidence can be seen in the choices made by the teams of the main competitions in the sector, Giro d’Italia and Tour de France
Bicycle tourism speeds up value creation, the number of tourists in the saddle grows and the dedicated tourism offer is enriched. Leading the way is Trentino-South Tyrol with 33 equipped facilities for every 100 km of cycle paths, the focus of hospitality operators on sustainability is also key.
Data and trends, along with the future of the ecosystem in the project stories of two voices of excellence in the sector: Elena Vasco, Secretary General of the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce, and Federica Cudini, Country Marketing Manager for Bosch eBike Systems Italy
Thanks also to the high propensity for innovation and a skilful combination of technology and design that characterise the entire bicycle sector, Italian production is recognised as synonymous with excellence
In 2023, the number of people choosing Italy for cycling holidays will grow by double digits, and the number of dedicated tourist offers, cycling routes and ‘equipped’ hotels will also increase; attention to sustainability is also increasingly key. We discuss it with Alessandro Lago, Managing Director and Sales Manager of Fantic Rent
The 2024 Bicycle Ecosystem portrays a resilient industry: innovation, technology and design ensure that Italian companies continue to benefit from the preferences of the international market, despite the physiological drop in revenues in 2023. On the other hand, bicycle tourism and the focus on an increasingly all-round sustainability that fits in well with the philosophy of two-wheelers is growing at a rapid pace
